The perfecting of a new range of catalytic supports for the reduction of exhaust gas emissions from petrol engines, with a cerium and zirconium mixed oxide based composition doped by rare earth ions, makes it possible to significantly increase the durability and efficiency of catalysts.

These porous supports definitely have a better performance than the first generation supports thanks to a bigger pore space with an increased thermal stability and a capacity to release or absorb oxygen improved by 25%.

 
Their advantages are the following:

• an improved catalytic performance (a 20% reduction of HC¹ and a 30% reduction of NOx², in a standardized cycle after covering 120,000 miles, i.e. 193,000km;

• an extended durability of exhaust pipes (>160,000 km);

• a reduction in the use of precious metals.

Moreover, it seems possible to apply this technology to diesel engines.
